Green Smoooothie....

Here's something I experimented on....it is a really good one, far better than any smoothies I've tried. And it really fills you up as much as a cooked meal.

2 cups of raw baby spinach
1 avocado
2 fresh medjool dates (don't get the dried ones)
1 frozen banana

And fill the blender with water. And blend everyone to a nice smoothie consistency.

Enjoy!

21 days - finally over!

well, the 21 days sure went quickly. I feel really good and completely cleansed, also lost some weight in a healthy manner.

I am not sure if I will go back to completely cooked food. I would like to maintain at least 70% raw as i am experiencing the benefits of raw food. I know I am not ready to go 100% raw, so perhaps in another few years eventually.

More recipes will be posted here from time to time.....so stay tuned.

Tomorrow is my last day!

I experimented with an interesting recipe for dinner tonight....

Raw pasta!

turnip - cut finely to look like pasta (use a food processor)
laksa pesto - laksa leaves (cut fine), olive oil, salt, garlic, nutritional yeast flakes. mix everything into nice sauce

pour and mix into turnip

makes yummy raw pasta!

18th day!

I found some delicious figs and dates, all natural and raw. They are wonderful ingredients to add to some of the raw recipes.

A delightful smoothie:
1 banana
1 date
3 figs
enough water.

Blend everything. Makes a sweet drink for those with a sweet tooth.

Raw ice cream:
Frozen bananas (2-3 ripe ones, peeled and stored in bags)
A little bit of water

Blend and you get an amazing consistency that is similar to ice cream. Everyone loves this. You can also add raw carob powder if you like to make 'chocolate ice cream'

Another ice cream idea, actually more like a popsicle:
Mangoes as many as you like
Blend with water

Pour the blend into popsicle cases and freeze! Voila! Healthy popsicles without the unhealthy stuff.

Another 3 days to go!

Day 15

Over the weekend, again busy busy....didn't get a chance to experiment much. However, I did manage to do a quick Thai salad.

Here are the raw ingredients:

turnip
carrots
cucumber
pineapple
guava
green apple

dressing:
onion
chilli
garlic
lime juice
olive oil
pinch of salt
raw honey

Sprinkle with ground raw peanuts.

Made a really refreshing salad. I think it would have worked better if I had lemon grass as well.

But delicious all the same!

11th day!

I think I am getting bored with my pate hahaha, after 10 days, well it is expected. Even though there was variety in the ingredients, I think I may have overdid it.

Anyway, I will be more adventurous today to try something different. Time is a factor for me.

I am still feeling good with the raw. Occasionally challenged as I still have to cook dinners for my family. Temptation is there but I am using my will power.

so stay tuned for more recipes!

I can't believe it is the 10th day!

Time has certainly flown. I can't believe how quickly time just passed. I am still strong in my raw vegan fast.....still feeling good.

I drank more water today, so didn't feel my stomach churn as much as yesterday. I think my gastric juices may have been overactive yesterday!

Here's a link which may be of interest:

this guy lost 135 pounds and reversed his diabetes on a raw vegan diet. See it to believe it.

There are other interesting stories in that site too.....quite inspirational!

9th day

Today, i have been feeling mostly hungry! I eat almost every hour of some kind of fruit or other.

I will have to do something more compact tonight for dinner with nuts.

Yesterday, I varied my pate a little with raw mushrooms, it was quite yum.

I hope to have the time to try out different recipes over the weekend!

8th day

what I find to be most challenging on a raw food diet is the smell of cooked food! We have been programmed to relate certain smells to certain foods and then we start salivating! So, sometimes I start to feel hungry when I am around cooked food. On the flip side, I sometimes feel quite nauseated when the smell hits me, mostly is because of the smell of cooked oil.

Anyway, things are still going well. I didn't try any new recipes as planned for the weekend.

But yesterday, I made another pate (I find this the easiest and most convenient!) with cashew buts, carrots, spinach, tomatoes and 2 small chillies with salt and olive oil. Pretty good I must said. I cut up pieces of cucumber and ate the pate like a dip. Makes a good meal.

7th day

Yesterday was my 6th day and I had both my lunch and dinner out. It was a bit of a challenge. But I managed to find salads, and I removed the cheese and eggs from it and was left with lettuce. Obviously it didn't fill me so I bought bananas from the supermarket for lunch, munched on some buts as well. And at the end of the day came home for raw almond, vegetables wraps and more bananas.

I think today will be much easier as I should be home working! More updates later.

5th day

The weekend is normally more challenging to do any kind of fast, as we normally go out and looking for raw meals outside can be a challenge. But I am hopeful that I will be able to find a fresh fruit stall.

Anyway, I am still feeling good. Needing less and less sleep.

For breakfast today, I had a pear and the left over pate from dinner late night! It was even nicer this morning, after having been marinating in its own flavours overnight.

Will probably make a banana smoothie or something like it later.

I am feeling adventurous in experimenting with new recipes this weekend. Say tuned.

Wraps!

Made spicy lettuce wraps for dinner filled with wholesome goodness.

Here's the recipe:

1 tomato
1/2 yellow capsicum
1 carrot
1/2 cup soaked almonds
1/2 onion
3 small chillies
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoon olive oil
salt to taste

Soak almonds for about 4 hours. Drain. Place in food processor until fine. Add onion.
Followed by tomato, carrot and the rest of the ingredients and process into a nice pate. You should get a minced consistency.

Spread the pate on the lettuce and wrap!

4th day

Feeling good and refreshed today!

Something slightly different for breakfast

a smoothie with:
1 banana
1 golden kiwifuit
5 strawberries
1 teaspoon raw honey
1 tablespoon raw tahini
enough water to blend. Yum.

I will be out for lunch and hopefully I will be able to get some decent raw food.

raw soup

i made a raw soup for dinner...

1/2 yellow capsicum
4 large tomatoes
1 tablespoon of olive oil
pinch of salt

chop everything into a nice size for the blender and then blend into a smooth soup.

i also chopped up 2 sticks of celery and gave the soup some chunky bits.

the result - a nice big bowl of soup!

I dipped some lettuce into the soup for variety. haha.

throughout the day, i had lots of fruit such as bananas, apples and a young coconut.

A great nut shake

A delicious and nutritious shake...this was half drunk :-)

1 cup of raw cashew nuts (soaked for about 4 hours) blend with water and a banana (optional) and you get a smooth nutshake! Much better than a milkshare!

3rd day

so on this 3rd day, i've learned that by eating enough, i actually feel good and healthy at the same time. yesterday, i was feeling satiated and satisfied and so no cravings for cooked food as yet.

I see that my meals and snacks would be pretty much the same for the first 1/2 of the day. i might try out some new raw recipes for dinner....so stay tuned!

snacks and dinner

snacks in the afternoon: 2 bananas, 1 young coconut (water and meat)

dinner: 2 more rolls of almond sushi roll, 1 banana

after dinner snack: 1/2 bowl of fresh longans

meals

as it turns out this is what i had to eat so far:

breakfast:
an apple
2 bananas, 2 tablespoon of raw tahini, water blended into a smoothie. this is the yummiest!

lunch out:
a slice of pineapple, mango and papaya
a glass avocado smoothie, unfortunately they added sugar in this so i really couldn't drink it. It was quite toxic!

so came home, use the almonds which i was soaking in water since this morning and made a nice almond pate roll!

1 and half cups of raw almonds, soaked in water. Blended with a pinch of salt and a dash of olive oil (1st coldpressed so that it is as raw as can be. I added water as well to make it into a smooth pate. and then i used 2 sheets of seaweed (unfortunately not raw, it is toasted) and made 2 almond sushi rolls. Very yummy and satisfying!

2nd day

Woke up very early this morning.....feeling energised.

I had a late night snack of banana last night as I was feeling a little hungry. I read somewhere that the good thing about a raw vegan diet is that you can eat as much as you want! which I think is really funny but certainly not the motivation to go raw. :-)

Anyway, this morning I plan to have another banana, kiwi smoothie. I may have a almond nut pate too. Will post recipes on these later....

dinner menu

I just had a full dinner....

a pear and an apple to munch on followed by.....

a banana, a golden kiwifruit, 1 tablespoon of organic raw tahini and enough water to blend into a delicious smoothie!

background

Here's the background of why I am doing this raw vegan fast....

I've done this before in the past for about 3 months, i was about 90% raw at that time and I felt really good, fresh and rejuvenated. However, i think I made some mistakes eg I didn't eat enough so this is one of the reasons why I stopped.

I researched later and found out that for a raw vegan diet to work, one needs to actually eat many times a day. A breakfast may consist of 2-3 fruit/veg drinks with one hour intervals. Or it may consist of a raw nut (soaked) pate and so on.

Anyway, I have come to a point in my personal growth and development where I feel a raw vegan diet, if not 100% at least 80-90% would be highly beneficial to me physically as well as spiritually.

So i am going to be as raw as I can for the next 21 days. I've prepared for this in the past few weeks with raw breakfasts and dinners as much as I can. And I am hoping to go raw for all 3 meals for the next 21 days....wish me all the best!

1st day

This evening I will officially begin my 21 day raw vegan fast....so stay tuned!
